The parcel service was founded in 1969 in San Francisco as a cash-in-transit company: At that time, the three founders delivered shipping documents from ships and other important documents by plane from San Francisco to Honolulu. The first letters of their surnames resulted in the company name: Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn.
